Ieva Baltmiskyte

Ieva BaltmiškytÄ— is a Lithuanian guitarist, lutenist, and composer currently residing in Brussels. Ieva holds four master's degrees in guitar performance, early music, and music pedagogy from the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre, where she studied with Julius Kurauskas, and the Royal Conservatory of Brussels, where she studied with internationally acclaimed musicians Antigoni Goni and Xavier Diaz Lattore. While studying guitar performance at the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre, she also studied composition with one of Lithuania's prominent composers, Rytis Mažulis. She further honed her skills with internationally renowned musicians and ensembles, including Oscar Ghiglia, Saron Isbin, Konrad Ragossnig, Nuccio D'Angelo, Pepe Romero, Roland Dyens, David Russell, Elena Papandreou, Gerald Garcia, Adam Holzman, Laura Young, Bosko Radojkovic, Ulrich Stracke, Giampaolo Bandini, Cesare Chiacciaretta, Alfonso Montes, members of the Los Angeles Guitar Quartet: Scott Tennant, William Kanengiser, and John Dearman, the Eden-Stell duo, Groningen Guitar Duo, and others. Ieva BaltmiškytÄ— has performed in numerous countries, including Germany, Belgium, Austria, Italy, Ukraine, Russia, Moldova, Latvia, Estonia, Lithuania, France, Switzerland, and Japan. She has given concerts and led masterclasses at prestigious guitar and music festivals such as the Iserlohn Guitar Festival (Germany), Seitensprunge Guitar Festival (Germany), Festival Catharina (Belgium), Chapel for Europe Festival (Belgium), SansusÄ« (Latvia), and others. In 2022, as a composer and performer, she participated in The Arctic Circle expeditionary art residency program, creating the piece "Requiem for a Glacier". Her solo album, "The Strings of my Soul," was recently released by the "Plaza Mayor Company" record label. Her new album "Requiem for a Glacier” is currently in producton. Ieva plays Renaissance and Baroque lute, vihuela, Renaissance and Baroque guitar, theorbo, romantic guitar, classical guitar, and 11-string guitar.

Requem for the Glacier

This composition was inspired by a profound experience during my participation in the Arctic Circle artist and scientist residency, where I sailed around the Svalbard archipelago on the tall ship Antigua.

Arctic Circle artist & scientist residency 2022

The Arctic Circle is an annual, artist and scientist led, expeditionary residency program.

The internationally selected team will collectively explore the high-Arctic Svalbard Archipelago and Arctic Ocean aboard a Barquentine sailing vessel.
